Armadillos (Dasypus novemcinctus)

Armadillo trapped in Polk County, Florida

Armadillos are probably most people’s least concerned about wildlife. Let’s face it, they are essentially harmless to you and are quite goofy looking. Many people find them a little comical and neat to watch. However, there are occasions where armadillos can prove to be problematic around the home. Anyone that has ever had an armadillo residing on their property has undoubtedly witnessed the digging around their yard and occasionally gardens. While some may find that aggravating enough, occasionally armadillos will dig burrows under the home. Mobile homes often fall victim to this and armadillos will find residence under the crawl space. These openings that are made by armadillos can also invite in other wildlife such as opossums and raccoons.

Armadillos will also occasionally tear into ductwork insulation while thinking they are digging into substrates for grubs and worms. Nature-Tech Wildlife Solutions LLC can resolve your armadillo trouble and help you have peace of mind regarding the security of your home against “wild invaders”.

It must also be said that the armadillo has long been associated with the leprosy disease. While it is true that they can be carriers, this is of such minimal risk and should not be held against the animals or invite cruelty towards them. There is a treatment for leprosy, for those wondering. Further, like rabies, it has to be carried and given between organisms. There have been no confirmed cases of leprosy in any armadillos within the central Florida region. Further, in order for this disease to be transmitted to humans, it would require the perfect storm of unlikely events. But suffice it to say, simply don’t touch them and then it is a complete impossibility for it to be transmitted to you. If you should have any concerns or questions, our technicians are always available to help you. If you have a problem with armadillos, whether you live in Polk County, Pasco County, or Hillsborough County we are ready to trap and remove armadillos from your home so you can be confident that your nuisance armadillo problems are resolved!
